Handling Odor
- Contamination: Separating HOT from NOT
- Odor always pays.
The key concepts when handling odor are to consistently separate odor-containing objects from those that will never contain odor, and to never have odor present without payment. To achieve the first objective, we will be mindful of how we transfer scented objects, such as by using tweezers, and every time we place odor into a new container, we must label that container HOT. To avoid exposing our dog to meaningless odor, we must simply store our odor, including any vented odor containers, inside airtight containers between training sessions.
